A striking formal facade presents a grand old-world Tuscan villa. The villa's charm lies in its mix of casual and formal elements combining simplicity with grandeur which makes entering this home like stepping back in time to a gracious elegant Europe.

About this Elegant Estate:

Grand Foyer: As you enter the home circular walls of meticulously placed limestone graced by two Italian antique Savonarola chairs greet you and your guests. An elegantly curtained passage of gold velvet and Renaissance-inspired prints hide a spiral staircase that leads from the ground floor to a private retreat above. Custom designed Travertine flooring is hand chiseled into a Versailles pattern that runs from the entry courtyard through the bottom floor and out to the garden patios.

As the house's structure combines the charm of more traditional materials with the space and light of modern architectural sensibilities, so too the decoration of the rooms mixes old and new to great effect.

Collonade: This is the core of the home. At the very center of this space, set into the travertine floor, is an imported hand-carved floor medallion based on a German Renaissance rosette design. An oil painted mural executed in 15th century Renaissance style graces the pendentive dome ceiling; a strong rich palette of jeweled tones portray classical figures and painted landscapes and the "Joys of Life": music, dance, courtship, and family. Through the oculus sits a gold-leafed cupola with cobalt blue windows divided by hand carved marble columns.

Four soaring arches frame the eighteen foot square space that is sectioned into several conversation zones. Comfortable, intimate seating flanks the enormous fireplace on either side along with an oversized leather ottoman. Two curved Renaissance-inspired couches covered in fabrics of gold, cobalt blue, and deep red beckon visitors to sit.

Living Area: The walls of the main living areas are hand rubbed with inviting, warm golden tones. Large comfortable sofas covered in velvet and overstuffed chairs create a more relaxed environment. Eight specially designed forged-steel torches scale the wall as if in a medieval castle and bathe the room in a warm amber glow. Fabric covered groin vaults grace the perimeter of a deeply coffered ceiling supported by hand-carved, imported marble corbels.

Light filters through the cobalt blue clerestory windows above, projecting a magical translucent blue light to the floor. Four ceiling fans drop from the 17-foot ceiling to stir a refreshing breeze, and a pair of bronze mythological figures stands guard over the home. An 10'x27' wall of hanging glass panels slide along a track and disappear from view, providing unobstructed passage from the Great Room into exterior pool area: pool, spa, gardens and a view of the golf course and the lake.

Bar: The entry bar is adorned with hand-carved marble architectural elements that support the granite counter tops and cabinetry. A soothing and relaxing wall of bubbles entertains guests.

Dining: With a groin vaulted ceiling of cobalt blue and eight-point gilded stars, the dining room is done in a medieval castle decor. Heavy wooden furniture establishes a solid presence in the dining room featuring a hand-carved table and twelve crested high-backed chairs. An oversized, hand-carved wood hutch hugs the golden, hand-rubbed walls arched windows are trimmed with crimson velvet curtains and amber beaded fringe and a fresh water aquarium lined with cobalt blue glass tile finishes the effect.

Kitchen: The expansive kitchen with hand-rubbed antiqued walls in shades of burnt orange, old-world travertine floor and countertops, and an abundance of natural light make this one of the most inviting parts of the house. A sweeping bi-level center island with a massive travertine countertop offers seating for twelve.

A gilded domed ceiling echoes the shape of the center island below. The islands cook top is a commercial four-foot Teppan grill over which hangs a custom designed, hand forged copper and brass hood. A state-of-the-art pizza oven set in honey quartzite and 4" travertine adds warmth and ambiance to the setting. The cabinetry design incorporates rich natural wood with sand point finish.

Hand-made bronze swirling acanthus leaf drawer and cabinet pulls were specially caste for the home. Other amenities include: Side by side Sub-zero under counter refrigerator drawers, 60" stainless steel Dynasty range and dual dish washers.

Master Bedroom: Rich and inviting. Marble double rope columns, pedestals, and lentils were specifically designed for this home to support the grand arch that stretches above the oversized king bed adorned by luxurious silk fabrics and oversized pillows.

Opposite the bed stands an imported hand carved marble fireplace. Above the bed hangs a Roman bronze alabaster chandelier. The nightstands on either side of the bed are graced with inset gilded fret work. The room offers TV and wet bar.

Passage from the master bedroom into the bath is through a custom hand-quarried keystone archway made of imported marble.

A large bathroom with double vanities adjoins the master bedroom. Custom carved marble vessel sinks complement the golden Italian marble. A classical Roman bath motif is cast in arched window glass, all set off by a hand carved marble fireplace.

Second Bedroom & Bath: A rich sense of color, texture, and pattern predominates here. The walls are painstakingly washed with transparent layers of coriander, gold, and bronze, leaving a soft, luxurious textured finish of undulating color.

Another distinctive touch is the oval dome ceiling, which has been hand painted and aged with a warm crackle finish. An oval bed is upholstered in lustrous silk. Doors and windows throughout the home are custom finished, each deep-set and picture framed with rope molding.

Third Bedroom & Bath: A pair of beds with Gothic head boards are draped in pale blue and gold. This room features a groin vault ceiling, crests in 16th century Renaissance design, Roman shades in soft gold Renaissance fabric, and an armoire based on late Flemish Renaissance. A hand-tinted glaze washes the room in a soft calming parchment tone.

Fourth Bedroom: Hand-tinted glazes applied in layers wash the room in a soft, billowy bronze tone, giving added color emphasis in the corners and around the doors and windows. The suite is graced by an armoire based on French baroque style, a groin vault ceiling, and a striking four poster bed intricately hand-carved with an upholstered headboard and embellished with bronze hammered studs. A comfortable and inviting chaise lounge with leather tables sits beside bronze silk balloon shades that dress the arched windows.

Bedrooms 4,5 & 6 plus the 7th loft style bedroom are all extraordinarily well appointed and certain to satisfy all of your guests.

Pool & Spa: Two poolside terraces with balustrades are shaded by cooper and brass awnings. Each provides an intimate seating area and a protected vantage point for admiring the view. The pool and twelve-person spa are finished in multi-colored glass bead plaster and trimmed in imported, color-rich glass mosaic tile with tile accents of 24-karat gold.

A breathtaking feature of the pool is the sensational waterfall that spills over the 16' flying buttress into the spa below. Submerged patios on either side of the pool allow visitors to lounge or dine in the cool water under hot desert sun. A couple of marble sphinxes are guardians of the pool. Hand forged iron fire baskets follow the infinity edge pool and provide the element of fire that illuminates the night. Other pool area features: outdoor fireplace, wet bar, cooking facilities including outdoor grill and side burner.

Palm Desert is a beautiful desert community located just 10 miles from Palm Springs. This affluent community is home to the El Paseo Shopping District, which is known as "the Rodeo Drive of the Desert." Here, you can enjoy over 150 shops, art galleries, jewelry stores, clothing boutiques and fine restaurants.

With sunshine almost every day of the year, golf is a popular sport in Palm Desert and you have more than 80 championship courses to choose from! Other things to do in town include visiting the Living Desert, which is a 1,200-acre wildlife and botanic garden park, or take a jeep tour of the desert, or a trip to the Children's Discovery Museum.

Special events are ongoing throughout the year, with some of the more well known being the Palm Desert Spring Fest, a spectacular 4th of July Fireworks Show, and a series of outdoor concerts and films. But, the most unique festival of all is the Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade, which is usually held in November. This festival features lively decorated golf carts, live entertainment, food, children's games and celebrity guests! Palm Desert has big city amenities with a small town feel — and is the only town where golf carts are street legal!
